Beauchamp Farm – Creating a prestigious address

An impressive and prestigious project involving the renovation and extension of an approximately 200 year old farm house to provide a luxury home has been completed at Beauchamp Farm, St Martin, Jersey.

The project was carried out by main contractors Peter Green Builders.

Nick Andrews, director of Peter Green builders said: “We were approached by the architect to complete the project which involved the construction of two extensions and the reconfiguration of the existing interior to provide accommodation as specified by the client.”

A large extension was constructed to accommodate a specious a kitchen, with a second extension providing a utility and shower area. The project also included the construction of a triple garage, plus extensive hard and soft landscaping to the rear of the property. Drainage and irrigation systems were also installed, as well as new mechanical and electrical installations, including an air source heat pump to heat the building.

The building’s granite were walls cleaned and re-pointed with lime mortar, windows and external doors were replaced and new roof insulation, together with a new roof were installed.

Nick Andrews said: “Challenges of the project included lots of planning constraints on the scheme due to the age of the building, and the discovery of Japanese Knotweed, which had to be handled in accordance with best practice, these works being carried by a specialist.

“The property had undergone previous works over the last 50 years, and had been lined with lightweight concrete blocks, so the engineer had to come up with a means of making these stable and secure, and this took a fair bit of effort.”

As the client is creating an orchard to the side of the property, it was necessary to install rainwater disposal drainage into this area in shallow trenches with many small soakaways. The works also included the closure of an old septic tank system.

Nick Andrews concluded: “The client is very happy with the project; it was a great project to work on with the client and their consultants.”

The works commenced in March 2017 and were completed a year later.
